Anonymous Portraits

In “Anonymous Portraits” I began using stock photography as source imagery for the paintings. I am interested in the anonymity of these women. When you browse stock photography you see all of these different people who have their own lives and histories, yet they are totally devoid of context, dehumanized, and commodified. I choose faces that speak to me and through my process attempt to humanize them and place them in the context of nature. By combining the textures of skin with bark, leaves, and flowers I am exploring the idea of how memory resides in the physical body and the landscape.
